Reposition your desk

If you've got your own office, how you position your desk makes a powerful statement.

You don't want to have your back to the door. That's rude. People will think you're unsociable and unapproachable.

Neither do you don't want you desk facing the door, otherwise you'll never get any work done. You'll attract interrupters like horse manure attracts flies.

Put your desk where you can have even a small amount of privacy. If someone does come to the door you'll see them out of the side of your eye and you can prepare to greet them.

If someone is coming in to talk to you, get out from behind your desk and invite them to sit at the round table.

It's good manners.
