'Break, break, break, on thy cold gray stones, O sea!'
You need a break every now and then, whether it be 'sitting on the dock of the bay wasting time', 'wandering lonely like a cloud', 'walking the dog' doing a few stretches or going and getting yourself a cup of tea.
The Daily
Health Break concept is currently being developed by Miller Health
and we're inviting a select group of people to test drive it and
provide us with feedback. Using a computer analogy, the aim of the Daily Health Break is to encourage you to take a bit of time out of your work day to give yourself a metabolic, musculo-skeletal and/or mental health defrag.
Prior to a computer defrag, an analysis of fragmented files looks like this:
After the defrag it looks like this:
If there was a similar process to ‘defrag’ your own body, how much better would you feel?
Well there is and it comes in a variety of forms, aerobic fitness, strength and flexibility exercises and active relaxation techniques ... For this to happen you need to take a break.
There's one catch, it's not something your can sub-contract out, you have to do it yourself.
In fact if you maintain your exercise and 'relaxation' regime over the years, age 70 will be the new 50.
So our aim is to recommend an activity of some sort that will give you a quick defrag and then deliver you back to your work zone, refreshed, relaxed, revitalized and reinvigorated .
The posts and activities will be varied, they'll be enjoyable and take only 3 or 4 minutes of your time.
Some of the messages will come with a call to action, some will give you food for thought and some will give you a good laugh.
Every now and then you'll receive some plain old-fashioned, commonsense advice on how to better manage your work environment.
I'm sure there will be some activities that you'll want to include in your daily routine on a permanent basis.
If you've got any suggestions for health breaks, feel free to pass them on.
Why the 'almost'. Sometimes you sign up to receive someone's emails and your inbox gets swamped with 'stuff' you don't have time to read. It becomes a distraction. It reaches the point where you just can't cope.
So, we'll make it an 'almost' daily heath break and we'll keep each one short, sharp and shiny.
Here's to your good health and the good health of your organisation.
In a few days your first Daily Health Break will appear in your inbox.
Regards and best wishes
Daily Health Break
