Back in Alignment

Back in Alignment is a fitness centre-based musculo-skeletal health program for people with personally-generated joint and muscle pain.

It's designed to help people discover the cause of their back (and other joint) pain and provide them with the flexibility and strength exercises most likely to get the skeleton back into better alignment and restore poor function to good.

Back in Alignment is a program designed to:

drive fitness into the frontline of primary health care

encourage more people to join a fitness centre.

It's a class-based strength and flexibility training program, the prescription, measurement, management and monitoring of strength and flexibility exercise programs being the bread and butter of fitness practitioners.

The program

There are a number of ways the program can be run:

1.  inviting people to an introductory session or seminar

2.  providing people with an individual Clinical Diagnostic Assessment

of the likely personally-generated cause(s) of their joint and

     muscle pain

3. regular, 1 hour group strength and flexibility classes

4.  Providing clients with resources.

In an age where the simple has become complicated, the transparent has become opaque and the cheap has become expensive, the the Back in Alignment program stands like a beacon attracting people to fitness centres where they can learn how to get their bodies back into better alignment and pain free by improving their strength and flexibility.

It's the most cost effective way to relieve joint and muscle pain and improve mobility.

At a Back in Alignment class, fitness practitioners provide clients with an indication of what's causing their pain and teach them the strength and flexibility exercises needed to do relieve it.

All it involves is people doing exercises that get their body back into better alignment.

No expensive pills or cremes, no rubbing, crunching, heating vibrating, hanging-upside-down, electronic muscle twitching; just people joining an exercise class at their local fitness centre and doing the exercises at night in front of the TV.

Any visits to a therapist will speed up the rehab process.

Alignment alignment alignment

If the fundamental principle of real estate is location, location, location, the fundamental principle of musculo-skeletal function is alignment, alignment, alignment.

Miller's first law of musculo-skeletal dysfunction

A body in alignment stays in alignment unless acted upon by a force. In most cases of skeletal misalignment, the forces are ones we generate ourselves. It's our own tight muscles that allowed bones to move out of alignment.

What your clients need to know

Just think about which muscles have been acting on your body to force your pelvis and the bones above (and below) it out of alignment and for how long the process has been taking place. Most likely it started for the day you stopped doing strength and flexibility exercises.

Most people have never done any strength and flexibility exercises! The decline in musculo-skeletal health has started before they reached their teens.

Most musculo-skeletal dysfunctions occur gradually, over the months, years and decades as muscles gradually shorten, frequently do to our habitual posture, particularly when sitting down.

In a majority of cases the pain from musculo-skeletal dysfunction is self-generated.

The good news about that is that if you have generated the pain yourself, there's a fair chance you can 'ungenerate' it, particularly if you catch it early enough.

Lao Tzu said, 'A big problem could have been solved easily when it was a small problem.'

Most people wait until they have a big problem before they do something about it. Chances are they take the medical, radiological and pharmaceutical route when what they need is a fitness program - a regular and systematic strength and flexibility training program.

If the exercises recommended in the Back in Alignment clinic training program are done on a regular and systematic basis you should soon start to feel better as bones are drawn back into better alignment.

I'd go as far as to say that for 80% of people there is an 80% chance that they will fix themselves up to the point where function is restored to 80% of normal.

Remember, it's a big ask expecting to get better by having someone do something to you; sooner or later you have to do something to yourself.
